Interbike Day One:

Well the first day of Interbike has come and gone, and all I can say is that there are some amazing new products coming out in 2007. All of our brands are producing some incredibly progressive products, and you should see most of these showing up in SA early next year. We are going to be putting together a detailed report on the show next week, but for now here are some pics of the booth's and a few teasers for you until we get all the pics up next week.

The Odyssey booth this year was amazing! The whole booth was built from aluminum and plexiglas and was by far the stand out of the show. Odyssey have a bunch of new products coming out. These include Vandero 2 hubs that have studs like the GSPORT marmoset, new "untraditional" forks that only weigh 1.15LBS!!! These forks also come backed with a lifetime guarantee on steer tube, legs, and dropouts. New Evo 2 brakes that have been redesigned from the ground up. Civilian bars with a 8 1/4 rise and 28 width. New Million Dollar sprocket that features bash guards on both sides, as well as new GSPORT pegs that are made from a durable yet light plastic material. These are just a few of the new items... Check back soon for pics of all these items and more.

The fly booth was another real stand out and the entire background was a hand painted artwork. From a distance it was hard to make out what it was but on closer inspection it was full of the most amazing detail. The standouts at the Fly booth were the new Kevin Porter signature products. Kevin has a new frame, fork, and bars in the works and they have some unique features. The frame has a SUPER steep seat angle and the dropouts on the frame and forks are tiny. Fly also had their new seat and seatpost on display. Both these products have been designed to work seamlessly together, and Fly have got the balance between size and function perfect on this new seat.

The DK booth featured all the new 2007 bikes and these are looking awesome. The 2007 range just landed at the Empire warehouse back home so you should see these bikes arriving in stores soon. There are SBB's on 4 of the new models and the bikes all feature revised specs and components which all add up to some of the best value for money bikes on the market. If you are looking for one of these bikes then call your local bike store a call. DK also have a new crank set coming out soon that will be arriving in SA stores early next year.

The T-1 booth was another amazing art piece from Michael Sieben. This time around they made trees out of wood that fitted inside the booth which held the products. The new Danny Hickerson and Joel Moody frame was on display and it looks very nice indeed. The frame has SBB and Integrated headset, 75' head tube, and weighs in at 5lbs on the dot. Joe RIch and Sandy Carson also had a photo exhibition up in the booth with some amazing photos of all the T1 riders.

Well that's it for now. We will post more pics from the show in the next few days, as well as a bunch of pics from our other brands booths. There will also be a full report with pics and details of all the products up early next week.

Austin / T-1 Visit:

Well Jon arrived in Austin earlier this week and has been visiting the guys
from T-1 before they all head off to Interbike. This is what he had to say about
his trip so far...

So far things have been going great. I have spent the last few days at T-1 and
managed to acquire this beauty for the warehouse back home.

This is an original first production run T-1 Barcode frame! It features the
10mm asymmetrical dropouts, regular head tube, USA BB, and in Taj's original tan
colour! This piece of BMX history is definitely going up on the wall in the
Empire warehouse when I get back.

A lot of people have also been coming through to ride the new additions to the
T-1 ramp. Danny Hickerson came by yesterday and was destroying the place. I
spent most of my time filming but did manage to snap this shot of him.

Danny hops into these crazy steep tooth picks out of lucky stalls. It looks
like he is going to fall but he actually stalls these tooth picks like this on
purpose! The quarter he is doing it on is also SUPER TIGHT, and add to the fact
that he is hopping into this out of a lucky stall just makes it even more nuts.

Today a bunch of new prototype stuff is also arriving at T-1 before the show.
Danny and Joel's new frame, as well as a prototype frame for Sandy Carson. I
will send you pics and info on these after the show.

Some of our brands have been releasing a few previews of new products before the
Interbike show. Fly bikes have a few new items up on their web page. New
cassette hubs, and a revised version of the SBB that features some interesting
refinements. And just when other companies thought they were catching up,
Odyssey just dropped a bomb on the BMX world with their new 07 forks! It seems
like Odyssey are in a league of their own right now. These forks look amazing!
Check out the Fly Bikes and Odyssey web sites for more info on these products.

That's about it for now. I will send you guys some more news from the road in a
day or so.

Interbike and team pics:

Well we are once again heading off to interbike this year. For those of you who don't know, Interbike is the biggest bicycle trade show in the world, and it is where all the industry people meet to display their new products for the coming year. You can be sure that we will be posting plenty of pics and updates on the new products when we get back. You can see our post from last years show in the gallery section. We will keep you updated with news from the trip while we are on the road (Including a visit to the new T1 ramp).

The 2007 DK completes are due to arrive next week! Look for them to be in stores soon! the new 2007 range has tons of new features like SBB's on four models, integrated headsets, and revised frames. We will post pics and info as soon as they are here.

We have also received a few more pics from DK team rider Matt McLeod. Matt recently traveled down to J-Bay to ride the park there and sent us a few pics from the session. Look for Matt's profile to be up in the team page shortly.

That's it for now. Check back for more updates in the coming days.

The Proof is in the Pudding:

If you check the news regularly you will have seen that the new Wombolt cranks are now available and that we have been making some pretty big claims about these cranks... Lightest, strongest, etc, etc. Well in light of this we decide to do a little experiment to provide you guys with proof of these claims.

We went out and got hold of 2 other popular cranks (With titanium spindles) and have compiled a comparison chart for all of you to check out. We weighed all the cranks on an electronic scale to ensure accuracy, and used a SBB on all 3 sets. Not everyone uses a SBB so the weights may vary if you use another BB, but we used a SBB for this experiment. The difference in weight will be constant no matter if we had used a euro or USA BB across all 3 cranks.

CRANK: Odyssey Wombolt 175mm with 22mm SBB & steel hardware
WEIGHT: 932 grams (with 22mm SBB)
ARMS: 4130 Chromolly (41 Thermal heat treated)
SPINDLE: 22mm 4130 Chromolly (41 Thermal heat treated)
GUARANTEE: LIFETIME GUARANTEE ON ARMS AND SPINDLE

CRANK: Profile Race 175mm with 19mm SBB & steel hardware
WEIGHT: 960 grams (with 19mm SBB)
ARMS: 4130 Chromolly
SPINDLE: 19mm Profile Titanium
GUARANTEE: LIFETIME GUARANTEE ON ARMS Only

CRANK: Primo Hollowbite 175mm with 22mm SBB & steel hardware
WEIGHT: 1004 grams (with 22mm SBB)
ARMS: Aluminium
SPINDLE: 22mm Primo Titanium
GUARANTEE: NONE

Results may vary depending on what equipment you use, but this should give you a pretty good idea as to the comparable weights of these products. The experiment was pretty fun to do and we hope you found it interesting.

Jimmy just put a set on his bike and they went together like a dream. New Fly shipment pics:

Here are some pics of the new Fly products that arrived yesterday.

We have frames in a bunch of new colours. From left to right we have, Stefan Pearl Red, Tony Mustard, Sergio Dirty Green, Kevin Lily, and Naran Light Blue. All these frames are available in 21 and 20.6 Top Tubes.

Next up we have one of my favourite new items. The new Fly Bikes rubber bar plugs. These are awesome because they don't shatter like regular plastic bar ends, and they also last super long. Push in bar plugs have been used before but Fly seem to have gotten the consistency of the material perfect with these. Soft enough not to shatter or crack, but tough enough to last for ages. They are also lighter then alloy, and come in a bunch of colours. Good bar ends at a cheap price... what more could you want.

We also have the popular fly stem available in new colours. Here we have the white, turquoise, black and pink. We also had the orange and coffee colours in stock but they sold out before we could take photos. All the colours are available in bike stores around SA though so if you are keen on these you better snap them up.

Now this is an item we have been getting calls for ever since the fly brakes came out. Fly cable hangers are now available individually! They come in a bunch of colours and will work with all 990 style brakes. These things work so much better then the standard hangers and they are also a really affordable way to improve your brakes performance.

Fly pedals are also restocked. They are available in Brown, White and Orange. We also have a bunch of spare parts like bearings, pins, caps etc.

The new 7075 Alloy compression bolts are also now available. These are available in all the new colours and are a nice upgrade over the previous chromolly compression bolts. All Fly forks now come with the 7075 compression bolt, and if you are running the old forks now you can upgrade to one of these coloured alloy ones.

Fly have also redesigned their SBB's. The dust covers have been machined to remove any excess material and the size of the spacers has been altered for better chain alignment. These are also available in all the new colours.

Finally we have then new Fly headsets in stock. these are completely CNC machined out of alloy and use a single top piece instead of the usual wedge and dust cover. This simplifies the whole design and also makes installation that much easier. The headsets are sold complete with bearings and are also very affordable compared to other integrated headsets on the market.

Well that is basically all the new goods. Pantera Bars, 3 Amigo Bars, Pantera forks, Ruben Grips, and Ruben Tyres are also all back in stock. All these products will be in stores by the weekend so head on down there and check them out.
