Cobra Tubes and More Pics:

UPS dropped off a parcel today, and inside were some of the prototype cobra tubes from Fly Bikes. The guys from Fly Bikes sent some down to us so that Buddy Chellan could do some testing for them. Buddy will be riding the tubes for a few months and will be letting the guys at Fly know how they hold up. These are the final prototypes, so if Buddy's testing goes well we should see them in stores fairly soon.

Ian Loudon also sent us some more pics from the riot Jam. Here is a pic of Federal team rider Tyrone Bradley doing a Fufanu on the retaining wall. Tyrone pulled this super smooth during his runs.

Here is a pic of Odyssey team rider Colin Loudon doing a whip in the quarter. Colin left the day after the Riot Jam for the UK where he is going to be riding in the Urban Games and riding the trails over there. We will keep all of you posted on what he gets up to in the UK.

The FOX Pro-Am is taking place at Wave House this coming weekend and we hope to see all of you there. DK bicycles are sponsoring the Am event and there are going to be complete bikes given away to the top 3 Am finalists. The event kicks off at 11:00 in the morning and it should be a lot of fun. See you there!

Riot Weekend:

This past weekend was crazy here at Empire. A bunch of team riders and friends are in town this week for the Riot Jam and the FOX Pro-Am. The Riot Jam went down this weekend and a really good time was had by everyone. Big props must go out to Brad and all of the boys from the Riot for putting this event together. The comp went down in a real relaxed atmosphere and there was amazing riding from both the ams and the pros. Here are a few shots from the day.

Buddy Chellan was flowing with his usual smooth style. Here he is with a big air on the 8ft quarter. Buddy took the 4th place spot in the Pro Comp.

Brendan was killing the place and found some of the most amazing lines around the park. High speed, big gaps, and tech tricks.. Here he is with a fuf on the bank to sub.

RIot represent Greg Illingworth was also riding amazingly well and did his crew proud by taking home the third spot in the pro comp.

This was Stephen Savage's first visit to the Durban beach park and he adapted really well to the setup. Stephen did this nose wheelie over the long grind box perfectly during one of his runs, and during the finals he also did the biggest gap of the weekend with a huge transfer right out of the park.

Another RIot team rider in attendance was Wayne Reiche, and he was boosting super high on the parks tranies. During one of Wayne's runs he also pulled a perfect fuf on the outer wall of the park, landing back into the small bowl.

The final results were as follows:

1st: Colin Loudon (Odyssey)
2nd: Chris Barnes
3rd: Greg Illingworth
4th: Buddy Chellan (Fly bikes)
5th: Paul Soderlund (Fly Bikes)

All in all it was an awesome weekend, and we really look forward to the next one in Durban! Thanks again to Brad and all the RIot guys for putting on the comp, and we hope to see you all at the next one.

Hotter then Hansel:

We have a lot of news for you today... Firstly we have added all the new Fly V2 frames to the products page. All the new specs and features are up there in the Fly Bikes section. We also have Buddy Chellans new bike check up in the team page. Click on his profile in the "Team" page to see what he is rocking on his new ride. His bike is dialled!

The new Odyssey / GSPORT / Sunday goods have also all arrived and the new products are amazing! We have restocked on a bunch of products and also have a lot of NEW items as well.

The Mike Aitken signature seats are here and are on their way to stores as we speak. They are based on the popular "Slim" style seat but Mike has made a few personal tweaks to the design. Another great feature is that the seat has NO stitching, so you can be sure that it wont rip open on the seam like some seats do.

Another new Odyssey Product are the Junior Cassette wheels. These feature Odyssey T1000 rims, Junior Vandero front hub, and Junior Cassette hub at the back. These wheels also come with a range of replaceable rear cogs to suit any racers gear ration. Look for these to be in stores in the next few days.

We are heading into the middle of winter and we have a new Hoody to keep all of you warm. This is the new "Messy" sweat from Odyssey and this has to be one of the best print ideas I have seen for a while. We only got a few of these in stock and they are all sold out, so if you want one dash on down to your local store and get one before they are gone.

Next up are the new GSPORT "Rib Cage" rims. These rims are probably the ultimate BMX rim on the market. They are super light, super strong, and also prevent pinch flats. The rims also use a cross over lace patter which makes your wheel extremely stiff. They are available in Chrome, Black, or limited edition Natural.

We also managed to get a handful of the new Sunday frames in stock! We were only expecting these to come in towards September but we were lucky enough to get these few from the first batch. These frames are revolutionary in design, and as Empire employee Jimmy Reynolds would say, these frames are... "Hotter then Hansel!". The quality of these bikes is incredible, and they are packed with unique and innovative features. They are also treated with Odysseys 41 Thermal process, so you know that these frames are backed by one of the best product guarantees in BMX.

To go with the frames we also have some Sunday soft goods. These are available in 3 designs and are shipping to stores as we speak.

Finally we received the new issue from SHOOK interactive. "Its On" is the latest issue and this video is incredible! This issue is packed with progressive street and park riding and is an absolute must see. The level of riding in this video is crazy!!! Super tech riding and some huge moves... (Ice pick up 20+ stairs!!!). Make sure you pick up a copy of "Its On",  you wont be disappointed.

Well that's it for today. Some of the team riders are here building up new bikes, and adding new parts so we should have some more fresh bike checks in the coming days. Until then head on down to your local bike store and check out all the new products.

New Odyssey and T-1 Products:

Odyssey have just released their latest limited edition Linear Cable and the new colour is Orange. These are already in stores so you can pick one up right away. As with all the limited edition colours these are not going to be repeated, so once they are gone they are gone for good! If you want one of these you better head down to your local store and pick one up today.

The new T-1 shipment also arrived and ALL the Garrett frames are sold out! If you were looking for one of these lets hope you pre booked one with your local dealer. If not then don't worry because we will be getting more as soon as T-1 has them back in stock. Along with the frames we also have fresh stock of Small, Medium, And OOB bars.

We also have some fresh T-1 soft goods in stock. First up are the new Garrett Byrne's T shirts. These are available in either blue or black.

Also in this lot are the new T-1 zipper sweats. These are also available in blue or black and feature the T-1 shield logo printed on the chest. All these products are available in stores NOW!

Random Madness:

Ever since the Fly goods landed It has been crazy busy here at Empire, but after this arrived in my inbox I just had to share it will all of you. Our good friend Toby Gronewald sent us this pic and it is simply madness! Firstly the pic was taken in 1905... 101 years ago! Secondly, it was taken right here is Cape Town South Africa. Toby stumbled across this pic while looking through a book about the history of Cape Town. Just look at the size of that loop! It also looks like the guy is doing it with no helmet or pads of any kind... Truly amazing.

New Fly shipment has arrived:

The new Fly shipment arrived today and the Buddy Chellan Frames are finally here!!! These beauties look amazing and are now available in 20.6 (Buddy's Size). Buddy's frame is the Mosca V2 which comes in Orange and features a bunch of new changes.

The frame is longer then previous models and also features a lower top tube. Previous models came in 19.8 and 20.2 top tubes, but Buddy's colour way features a 20.6 Top tube.

Some other refinements to the frame include integrated head tube gussets, lowered chain stays, and 3D dropouts with built in chain tensioners. As with all Fly frames these also feature integrated head tubes and Spanish BB's.

Another new item in this lot are the long awaited Fly Ruben Grips. These look super comfy and are available in 135mm and 150mm versions. This way you can choose to run a short grip on your lever side, or you can run 2 long, or 2 short grips. Its up to you. They also come in Brown, Dirty Green, Black, Cream, and Orange. Because the grips are sold individually you can also mix and match colours if you like.

All the new V2 frames are also available. Diablo V2's in Dirty light Blue, Mosca V2 (Buddy Orange), and Pantera V2's in mustard yellow. We will be posting updates on all the V2 frames in the coming days and we will also be adding them to the products page this week.

We have also stocked up on a bunch of other Fly products including Bars, Forks, Stems, pedals, as well as brakes. We now have the brakes in stock in dark brown to match the pedals as well. Look for more updates in the coming days with features on all the new products.

All the new products are shipping to stores this week so call up your local bike store and see if they have what you are looking for. All of our stores should have their stock by the weekend though, so head on down there and check out all the new products!

Pimp My Bike:

This past weekend was pretty crazy over here at Empire. A few months back Empire Cycle Supply was approached by a local TV channel to produce a series of kids shows called "Pimp my Bike". Basically it is a kids show where they send us kids with wrecked bikes and we get to dial in their bikes. This weekend we filmed the pilot for the show and it was a lot of fun...

As this was only the pilot we got to choose the kid instead of the show nominating a candidate. We chose local rider Darren as the test pilot because his bike is always wrecked and desperately needed attention.

The first step of the process was to tear the bike apart and give it a fresh coat of paint. Darren said he wanted his bike to be "WIld" so we turned it into a Zebra....

Here is a pic of Empire team rider Tyrone Bradley masking off the stripes on the frame. This took ages to do but it turned out super good.

At the end of it all Darren had a new "Wild Ride"! Filming the pilot was a lot of fun but we will have to wait and see if they end up running the show. Even if they don't go with it, we will be adding the pilot as a bonus feature on the Empire DVD so watch out for that. We will keep you posted with more news on the show as it develops.

Events:

June and July are going to be crazy months for riders in SA. Two of SA's biggest BMX events are going down on back to back weekends so you can be sure that plenty of insane riding is going to go down. Empire is proud to be associated with both of these events, and if you are planning on making it to any events this year, these two have to be it.

First up is the 6th Riot Jam taking place on the 24th of June. This event is going down at the Durban concrete park and is open to Ams and Pros alike. Riot Jams are always a blast and this one looks set to be the best yet. R3000.00 Pro Purse and R3000.00 in prizes from Odyssey, Federal, and Fly Bikes for the Ams.

Then on the 1st and 2nd of July we have the FOX Pro-Am event at Wave House in Umhlanga. This is SA's biggest BMX specific event and this year the guys are going all out to put on an amazing comp. R7000.00 Pro Purse, and R7000.00 in prizes from DK bicycles and FOX for the Ams.

Some of you will also have noticed that we are running a Sunday / SHOOK competition this month. The comp has only been up for one day and we have already had an amazing response. Click on the banner at the top of the news and fill out the questionnaire to enter. Its as easy as that.

Store News:

We have great news for all the riders in the KZN Highway area. Hattons Cycles in Pinetown are now stocking an extensive range of Empire's products. The scene in this area has always been really strong, however the lack of a good BMX store has definitely been felt by the locals.

That is now a thing of the past and we are really excited to have our products available to all the riders through this outlet. If you are looking for any of our products and live in the area make sure you stop by and check out their store, or call Hattons on (031) 701 3119.

In other news, issue 6 from SHOOK interactive is on its way. The video looks amazing and should be in stores across South Africa in the next few weeks. For a sneak preview you can check out www.shookin.com/ItsOn.html

We have TONS of new products arriving in the next week or so. New products from Odyssey, T-1, Sunday, GSPORT, and Fly Bikes will all be appearing in stores during June. Make sure you pay your local store a visit to be sure you get them first.
