Jim
C over at Sunday Bikes has put up a bike check with
Stephen Savage on the Sunday site, and also has a
little news on what Savage has been up to while in
Buffalo. Savage has been in NC for the last few weeks
staying with Chad Shack and Will Stroud, and is now
back in Buffalo for 10 days. Check out www.sundaybikes.com
to see his latest setup and a sweet pic of him riding
the fridge...
Some
of you may also notice that Savage is now running
the Odyssey twisted PC pedals. He sent us a mail a
few days back saying how awesome they were and that
he was loving riding them. Those of you who have been
riding for some time will know that these pedals came
out years back but have pretty much fallen off the
radar so to speak in recent years. Well a number of
pro street riders have stated running them recently
due to their light weight and relative durability
and now Odyssey have brought them out in a new limited
run of white. These pedals are super light and also
very affordable so expect to see them hitting our
shores soon!
Finally,
we got a mail from James at West Coast BMX to say
that they have now got their web page up and running.
For now it is pretty much just a news page, but it
is great to see what is going on in their side of
the world. Point your browsers to www.westcoastbmx.co.za
and see what they are up to...
We
have some new items coming in from Animal in the next
week or so and we thought we would kick off with a
quick preview today. First up the long awaited Animal
seats are finally out and on their way to us! We have
been getting endless requests for these since the
first samples were reveled over a year ago, so it
is really good to finally have them on the way to
us.
The
Animal seat uses the popular Pivitol technology and
we will also be supplying the seat posts for the seats
as well. This lot should be here in a week or two
and they will be available in black, white, and gray.
These are going to go super fast! So if you want one
of these call your local bike store and get your orders
in ASAP.
Along
with the seats we also have Edwin grips, Hamilton
pedals, and a bunch of fresh T-shirt designs coming
as well. Animal have been pulling out all the stops
with their soft goods lately and they have some awesome
new designs. keep checking the news and with your
local store to see when these products hit out shores.
And
to make sure you don't miss a beat when it comes to
Colin's travels, Lloyd sent us through a fresh batch
of pics. These were taken late last week and by the
looks of things Colin is definitely clocking up the
hours on his bike over there.
This
morning Lloyd sent through a few more pics of Colin
ripping it up in the USA. By the looks of it the two
of them are hitting up a bunch of rad spots in the
San Francisco area. This time the spot is "The
Wave" and it is located in Sunnyvale Ca. we hope
you like the pics!
While
surfing one of our favorite web sites (Defgrip)
we came across Jim Bauer's latest bike check. As most
of you will know Jim B handles all the art direction
at Odyssey and has been known for some pretty wild
spray jobs on his bike... well his new one is no exception!
Click on the picture below to get the run down on
his dope new ride.
Colin
sent us an update last night on his travels in the
USA. At the moment he is still in San Francisco and
has spent most of his time riding local spots in and
around town. Next weekend he is heading heading up
to Woodward West and from there his plans are pretty
loose. Here are some pics of Colin taken at a local
park in SF. Thanks to Lloyd for the photos!
In
product news, DK bicycles have also launched their
new Brian Kachinsky frame. This frame is Brian's signature
model and is built to take all of the abuse he hands
out. Here is what he had to say about his new frame
on the DK web site. "After many months of collaboration
and testing; DK and I have come up with a frame that
I know is light and sleek enough to make things right,
but strong and resilient enough for when things go
wrong. I'm proud to present to you my signature frame;
the Kachinsky by DK"
Built
with Heat treated butted chromoly tubing, U-brake
mounts on the seat stays.
Colors: Trans Black, White, Trans Green
T/T lengths: 20.1”, 20.6”, 21.1”
Chain stay: 13.75”

Look for these frames
to be available in SA in the near future!
A few days ago we reported
on the jam that went down in George over the past
weekend. Well James at West Coast BMX put together
a little edit of the session. It certainly looks like
everyone had a lot of fun, and the last clip is Nuts!
Click below to check it out.
Finally,
the guys at Odyssey have already added a whole bunch
of new videos to their Youtube account. You can visit
their video page at www.youtube.com/odsybmx.
There is some really good stuff up there including
some great team rider sections.
The
guys over at Odyssey have started up a Youtube account
where they will be posting all sorts of video stuff.
Their first post is the making of the "photoshop
free" ad for the JC pedal. This was one of the
bonus features on the first Odyssey video. Click on
the link below to check it out.
In
other news we have a bunch of new products shipping
this week. The new DK bikes shipment is leaving with
fresh stock of all models! Look for these to be in
stores in around 4 weeks time. We also have the new
Odyssey order leaving for us this week with a lot
of new limited goodies in there. And then finally
the Federal Freecoasters are also on their way to
us this week. We have had a lot of interest in these
so look for them to be arriving shortly.
There
were a number of things going down in the local BMX
world this weekend so here is a run down for you on
some of the happenings...
First
up a contest went down at Skate Lab in George this
weekend. A lot of riders made the trip to George from
PE, as well as a number of guys from Cape Town as
well. James from WCBMX, Matt McLeod, and Wayne Reiche
all got in touch with us to say that is was an awesome
event with a very laid back feel to the whole thing.
The contest was held in a Jam format and Matt reports
that he was disqualified for "Being too Good".
Now if there is one reason to be disqualified I guess
that has to be the best possible one! The final results
were as follows.
Wayne
shot some awesome pics of Matt after the event and
sent these through for us to check out.
Stuart Lang was also
ripping it up at the event but unfortunately crashed
and ended up with a concussion. Wayne snapped this
pic of him blasting one of his trademark tables.
On
the way back from the event Wayne and a few of the
Cape Town locals were hitting up some spots and Wayne
ended up tweaking his ankle. Wayne obviously wont
be riding for a little while due to his injury, but
on the up side he will be shooting a lot more pics.
Get well soon Wayne!!!
On
the other side of the world... Colin Loudon has finished
up in OC California where he was a model in the Iron
Fist catalogue shoot, and has now headed to SF. He
is currently staying with none other then the infamous
LL Ramsay. Here is a pic Mr Ramsay sent us of the
two of them. Don't they look like a happy bunch.
Colin
is spending 2 weeks in SF before heading off to work
at Woodward West maintaining their dirt jumps. No
doubt Colin will be please as punch with that labor
of love. Colin also told us that there are tons of
spots to ride in San Francisco so we will post pics
of his antics as they come through.
We
have just received the new issue of blunt mag and
it is one of the best issues yet! The new issue features
an awesome article on the Odyssey / FOX tip with Mike
Aitken and Chase Hawk, and is packed with awesome
pics from the trip. The article also has a really
good interview with both riders so make sure you pick
up a copy from your local news agents!
The
guys at Blunt have also posted some rad BMX web videos.
to see individual runs from the Winter Spine Session,
as well as a video from the Opening of the Riot's
new store.
Odyssey
team rider Colin Loudon has also left Sunny SA and
is now in San Diego, which means... Anyway, He has
armed himself with a digital camera and has told us
he will be sending us pics and news so we will keep
you posted on his travels. Colin will be there for
3 or 4 months so no doubt he will make the most of
his time over there.
Fly
Bikes rider Buddy Chellan also sent us a mail to say
that he has been in NYC for over a week now and his
bike still hasn't shown up! It seems that SAA have
no record of it at all which is frustrating for him
to say the least. Buddy has been passing his time
seeing all the sights but is no doubt wanting to get
on his bike ASAP.
A
little while back we also mentioned that Cape Town
rider Clemie Debruin is now riding for West coast
BMX. Well now we have the run down on his new bike
for you. Clemie is riding the new Sunday Vinnie frame
and his bike is looking super good to say the least!
By
the looks of things WCBMX is making moves down there
in Cape Town! If you live down that side of the world
then make sure you stop by their shop. They have one
of the best BMX stores in SA and can supply you with
anything BMX that your heart desires.
That's
it for today. Check back for more news in the coming
days...
We
have a collection of random news happenings to share
with you today so here we go...
This
past weekend was the "Sick Nick Invitational"
FMX event up in JHB. The event was co sponsored by
Oakley and as a result DK team rider Matt McLeod (who
is also sponsored by Oakley) was there doing a dirt
jumping demo. The jumps were pretty basic but that
didn't stop all the riders having fun. Here is a pic
of Matt with a downside whip over the hip. Thanks
to Tyrone Bradley for the pic!
Cape
Town's resident "BMX dood" and "Print
shop owner" Toby Gronewald is hosting a gig poster
exhibition on Friday the 13th called Sonic Fest. The
exhibition will feature gig posters from various SA
bands all of which have been printed at Toby's shop.
For more info check out the banner at the top of the
news.
We
also heard from Stephen Savage who is currently in
Buffalo New York. Stephen says he has been doing a
lot of riding and by the sounds of things is having
a lot of fun. Unfortunately he took a pretty bad tumble
yesterday which resulted in 3 staples and 4 stitches
in his head! He also reports that all of this was
done with no pain killers. Ouch!
Buddy
Chellan is also in NYC at the moment and is cruising
the streets of Manhattan. He is traveling from NYC
to Salt Lake City, and then on to Austin Texas. We
will let you know what he is up to as he goes along.
Jimmy
was kind enough to put together this edit of the spine
session that went down over the weekend. Click on
the link below to check it out.
The
guys at FNB and Blunt are also holding a full throttle
competition and one of the prizes is a complete bike
from DK bicycles. For more info on this click on the
banner at the top of the page.
This
weekend was a busy one with 2 events happening in
the KZN area. First up was a big MTB race at Giba
Gorge and some of the Empire team joined the Omnico
riders for a demo. Everyone had a lot of fun and the
crowd really appreciated all of the riding. Here are
some snaps that jimmy took from the demo.

jump.

Barnes with a 360 whip.
Tyrone
was blasting the quarter. Here he is with a table

Colin
Loudon with a opposite 360.
Colin

The
next day everyone headed down to Gateway for the Winter
Spine Session. A lot of riders showed up but only
a few braved the windy conditions and entered the
event. Prizes were handed out for Best trick, best
run, and runner up. At the end of the day the winners
ended up as follows.
Best Trick - Stuart Loudon
Best Run - Colin Loudon
Runner Up - Chris Barnes
Here are a few pics from
the event, thanks to Ian Loudon for taking the photos.
Chris Barnes with a downside
whip.

whip.
Little Darren was blasting
big airs like these all day.

After
all was said and done Colin and Stuart walked away
with some cash for their efforts and Chris took home
a product hamper from FOX and Odyssey. Well that's
it for today, we hope you enjoyed the pics.
