The
new Blunt mag is out and there is a bunch of BMX action
in this one. DK team rider Matt MacLeod has a full
page pic from the Fox Comp, Greg Illingwoth won rider
of the year and has an awesome full page pic as well,
and there is also a feature on the Dubai Trip that
Some of the Empire team went on. Tyrone Bradley also
got a full page pic in the Dubai article and also
shot a bunch of the pics that are featured in the
article. Blunt are doing a real good job covering
the BMX scene in SA so make sure you pick up a copy
of the new issue and check it out.
Odyssey
Team Rider Colin Loudon just got back from a month
long trip to Cape Town and stopped by the warehouse
to put some new bits on his bike. Colin built up some
new wheels with the limited edition Sea Foam Green
Hazard rims, and also put a new set of the Evo 2 brakes.
His whole bike has also had a bit of a face lift and
is looking pretty awesome if we don't say so ourselves!
Check out the team page for a run down of his new
setup.
In
other news, James Brawn (the man who ran the BMX side
of City Cycles for many years) will be opening his
own store called West Coast BMX in Cape Town. The
store will be based in Table View and will be 100%
BMX, and will be opening at the beginning of March.
We would like to wish James all the best with the
new store, and we are sure it is going to be a welcome
addition to the Cape Town scene. You can be sure that
all of our products will be available through West
Coast BMX so make sure you stop by and check it out
when it opens!
Jim
C from Sunday Bikes sent us this rad link to the Roll
on 20's blog. In the blog they talk about the first
Sunday prototype frame, and how it has been handed
down from rider to rider in NYC. It's really interesting
to see how many well respected street riders have
ridden this one frame! You can check
out the story by clicking
here.
The
United bags came in late last week and are now shipping
to stores. These bags have tons of pockets and compartments,
and should meet any riders needs. The guys at United did
a great job of creating a design that is both comfortable
and useful, so if you are looking for a new bag then make
sure you check these out.
Wayne
Reiche also sent us some pics from the team riders in
Cape Town. Colin Loudon, Stephen Savage, and Wayne are
still on a mission and seem to be riding a bunch. Here
are the pics that Wayne sent through.
Here
is a pic of Colin with a huge wall ride at the infamous
Cape Town ditches. Apparently he pulled this off in the
scorching heat and celebrated a good session by consuming
a burger pie from the nearest garage.
Here
is another pic of Colin, this time at the tomahawk trails...
Cranked look back over the hip.
This
pic of Savage doing a pedal grind was shot in the suburbs
of Cape Town. Apparently this ledge was super fast! But
Savage is a trooper and stuck it all the way to the bottom.
Finally,
Matt Macleod has been sessioning the streets of PE and
sent us this pic of himself doing a curved wall ride to
bar spin. And you guys thought Matt was just a dirt rider!
Matt also sent us bunch of pics of him sessioning the
PE bowl and we will have those up for you in the next
few days.
That's
it for today, check back for more news in the coming days.

A
bunch of our team riders and friends have been traveling
during the holidays and Wayne Reiche sent us some photos
from their travels. A huge group of guys headed to J-Bay
for new years and it looks like a lot of riding has been
going down.
Here
is a pic of DK team rider Matt MacLeod taken at the J-Bay
skatepark.
While
the guys were in J-Bay Wayne also spotted this monster
wall ride!
After
new years Wayne Reiche, Colin Loudon, Stephen Savage,
and Harold headed down to Cape Town Via P.E and George.
The stopped off along the way in Despatch and found this
wedge. Here is a pic of Harold with a foot jam whip.
Here
is a pic of Stephen throwing a bar spin on the same wedge.
This
pic of Colin was shot during their stop in PE. Here Colin
whips down a set of stairs in the city center.
All
the guys are now in Cape Town and we will keep you posted
with pictures and info on what they get up to. Thanks
to Wayne for sending through all the pics!
We
have been doing some cleaning up around the warehouse
this week as well as some moving around. In the process
we came across a few extra posters and stickers, and decided
to give them away to our news readers on the web page.
If you think your walls could do with a little "excitement"
and you would like to get your hands on these posters
/ stickers then shoot us a mail and we will send you and
assorted pack of goodies. Please note that we have limited
quantities of these posters so this is going to be based
on a first come first serve basis. Send us your name and
postal address, and we will send you whatever we can put
together.
the
sooner you send us your details the better your chances
are of getting a package. Send your details to info@empire.co.za.
(Open to South African residents only).
That's
it for today. Check back for more updates in the coming
days.
Unless
you have been living on another planet you will know freecoaster
hubs are becoming increasingly popular, and more and more
companies are working on new designs. We received some
pics from Federal of the new freecoaster hub they are
working on. The hub is being designed with the help of
KHE and Federal team rider Bruce Chrisman. The guys at
Federal are confident that this will be one of the best
street specific coasters an the market, and testing is
well under way with their team. The hub features a one
piece hollow chromolly axle, 9 tooth driver, and KHE's
new street internals. There is no release date as yet
but we will keep you posted on any developments.
The
new year is here and we hope all of you had a great festive
season! We are going to kick off 2007 with some fresh
updates to the site. Firstly we have completely redesigned
the products page. We received a lot of good feedback
on the last one, however with our list of products constantly
growing, the old format made it very hard for us to do
regular updates. The major change is that the products
are now listed by "part" as opposed to "brand".
This should also make it easier for you guys to compare
items when shopping around, and will also make it a lot
easier for us to add new items. Head on over to the products
page and check it out.
We
have also opened up a youtube account and will be adding video
clips over the next few months leading up to the release of
our team video later this year. We have started off with a
short video part for Stephen Savage filmed during the Gate
Crash Tour. Click on the image above to check it out. Look
for plenty more videos to be added in the coming weeks and
months.
We
have also updated the gallery with a bunch of random articles
and pictures. The blog from the Gate Crash Tour has been moved
into the gallery, as well as the Interbike report, and the
wallpapers we posted last week. You can find the gallery by
clicking on the link in the margin on the left of the news.
The
guys from Sunday Bikes have also launched their new web page.
Head on over to www.sundaybikes.com
and get a look at the new site. The guys at Sunday have done
a superb job with this page and it looks amazing. Profiles
with all the team riders include interviews, images, and videos.
All the new 2007 products are also up there including the
"new wave" frames. Make sure you pay them a visit
and get a look at that.
Finally
we have a bunch of new products arriving this week. The new
United backpacks will be here in the next few days. These
bags have compartments well suited to the "digital bmx
traveler" with spaces provided for laptops, cameras,
and ipods to name a few. These bags also have all the regular
compartments for clothing, pads, tools, shoes etc. so you
can be sure they have all their bases covered. We also have
a shipment of Odyssey goods arriving in a weeks time. This
shipment includes new limited edition linear cables, limited
edition JC pedals, Evo2 brakes, and the new Sunday 07 forks.
We will keep you posted on these items as they come in.
Well
that's it for our first update of 2007. Check back for more
updates in the coming days.
