Art with a BMX Twist:

Long time BMX rider and Cape Town resident Toby Gronewald recently sponsored a T-shirt exhibition in Cape Town. Toby has been involved in screen printing for years, and was probably one of the first people in SA to start a BMX specific clothing label (crux / submachine). Toby now runs Cape Screen Graphics in Cape Town and does a ton of work for other artists and clothing designers. Recently he sponsored a T-shirt exhibition at "what if the world" and printed the majority of the shirts on display.

The above pic is just a sample of what was on display. To view the whole exhibition go to www.whatiftheworld.com or even better get on down to the venue and check them out for real. The show ends this weekend so hop to it!

New Products and more Pics:

We have some new products on the way so here is a bit of a run down for all of you. Firstly we have the new Odyssey Pro Wheel sets coming in. These are new to our range and are one of the best value for money wheel sets on the market! The wheels come with a Odyssey Vandero front hub, Odyssey spokes, and a 36 Hazard light rim on the front. The back wheel is either a 48 or a 36 wheel with a Odyssey Hazard cassette hub, 1pc 11t driver, Odyssey spokes, and a Odyssey Hazard light rim. These will be selling for a really good price so if you are looking for new wheels make sure you give your local store a call and ask about these.

Odyssey are also releasing their new Mike Aitken seat and it looks awesome. The seat is a modified version of the popular "slim" style seat, and Mike has added some personal touches to the design by bulking it up in a few places, and slimming it down in others. The seat also features a retro diamond embossed cover. For pics of the seat visit www.odysseybmx.com and check out the news page. It looks very nice indeed.

We also have some more pics for you from some sessions that went down on the weekend. Here we have some pics from a session at Canal Walk in Cape Town. Here team rider Buddy Chellan blasts a turn down out of the 8ft quarter!!! Buddy owns this park...

Next up is Wayne Reiche sessioning the min ramp. Can you say Inverted!

Here is "Veg" with a levetator down the grind box. Seems like the Canal walk crew are getting it done. nice!

Store News and 2 New Rigs:

James from City Cycles in Cape Town sent us an update with on what has been happening on their side. If you live in Cape Town and are looking for any of our products then City Cycles is the place you need to check out. James has the store well stocked with all the good stuff!

James also sent us some pics of his 2 new rigs. Firstly here is his new VW caddy van, which is already getting pimped out with mags and what not. A true BMX vehicle indeed.

Next up is his new FBM autopilot. 4 pegs, breakless, and a freecoaster hub... tech setup no doubt. James chose the orange Autopilot over the red one because he said that red bikes "Hurt People". How can argue with that?

Brad from "the RIot BMX shop" also sent us a mail to say that they are redesigning their web page. The Riot is another store that is loaded with our products, so if you live in Joburg and you are looking for any of our stuff then get in touch with them. The new site is still largely under construction but there is a bunch of interesting stuff up there for you to check out. It seems like they have a lot of interesting plans for 2006, so head on over to www.theriot.co.za and see what they have planned for the future.

Product Update:

Just a quick post to get you all up to speed on some products that have come in. We have Odyssey Hazard Light rims back in stock in 36 chrome and 36 black. These have been flying out of here so if you are looking for them give your local bike store a call. We also have the new digital camo military caps in stock. These look really good and are also in stores right now! Other Odyssey products back in stock are, evolver brakes, Pro dirt forks, drivers in all sizes, and linear cables. All of the limited edition Purple cables are now gone, so if you want one you better pay your local bike shop a visit asap because when the are gone they are gone for good.

White Fly hubs are also all sold out, so once again if you are looking for these you better move quick. Those of you who purchased a Fly or a Federal frame during December or January should also have received your free DVD by now. If you did buy either a Fly or Federal frame, and you haven't yet received your free copy of "Uno" or "9 & 1/2 days", then please contact us or get the store you bought it from to give us a call. We will make sure you get your copy right away.

Interview and a mini road trip:

Team rider Paul Soderlund just updated his bio in the team page, and answered a mini interview for all of you to check out. Head on over to the team page and check it out.

In other team news Tyrone Bradley and Colin Loudon did a mini road trip up the north coast to Mandini bowl. OG Cobra member Warren Atkinson also accompanied them on the trip and reports are that it was a successful mission. This bowl was built way back in the 80's and is a lot of fun to ride. We will be adding a bunch of pics in the gallery, but for now here is a pic of them flowing through the snake run.

The guys at Animal have just sent us a pic of the final packaging for their new Hamilton pedals, and it looks awesome! The box features a Animal stencil cut into the top which is a really neat feature. No doubt you are going to see these up at all the local street spots as soon as they are released. The guys at Animal are doing a wide range of products in 2006 so stay tuned for more info. These pedals should be in stores some time in March.

Team Riders and a Burning Bus?

Team rider Paul Soderlund just headed home after spending a week or so in town. It was great to catch up with him again and we are now all well educated in the art of the "donkey punch". On the weekend we headed up to PMB with fellow team riders Tyrone Bradley, Jimmy Reynolds, and Colin Loudon. The aim was to hit up some spots and do a little filming for the Empire Video, and we came home with some true "gems" on the cam. Not all of them were riding clips, but they were all quality none the less.

Paul sessioned this ledge during a street ride in Pinetown on one of the nights. He was doing 180's, turn downs, and barspins out of it. This ledge also happens to be just down the street from the new warehouse so you can be sure that it will be seeing a lot more abuse in the future.

Here is a shot that was taken on the way to PMB. The crew found this burnt out (literally) mini bus with over 100 quarts of been in the back! All the beers had burnt in the fire and had exploded so the entire van was filled with broken bottles. Here you can see Colin and Paul expressing their disappointment with regards to the condition of the refreshments.

Paul also built up a new bike while he was here. He is now riding one of the new Fly 3 Amigos frames. Go to the team page and click on his profile to get a run down on his new ride, it is a beauty!!!

The new Odyssey shipment is due to arrive tomorrow and there are a number of new items in there. We will post pics of all the new products in the next few days so check back to see those...

Terrible Sweats:

We have some product news from the T-1 camp. Firstly we will be receiving the new Garrett Byrne's frames in February. These things are HOT! They come in 20.5, 21, and 21.25 top tube lengths, have SBB's and integrated head tubes, and also have Mr Byrne's grind plates on the chainstays. T-1 have put a bike check with Garrett up on their site so head on over there and check it out. www.terribleone.com

We are also getting these new T-1 sweatshirts in shortly. They come in either black or blue with the crest logo printed on the chest. Look for these to be available some time in February.

Finally the new limited edition colour Odyssey linear cable is Purple! These are now available in bikes stores around SA so go get them while you can. As with all of Odyssey's limited edition colours, once they are gone they are gone for good, so don't delay.

The Birthday Jam!

The new year is here and this is our first update for 2006. We got the year going on a bit of a celebratory note with team rider Tyrone Bradley having is birthday at the trails yesterday. All the Cobras were in attendance (minus the chef) as well as a bunch of friends and guests. Everyone had a really good time, and the birthday boy wasn't holding anything back either, with wild moves being thrown down on all the sets. Here are some pics from the "birthday jam".

Here is a shot of the posse who were in attendance. Some mad trains went down with almost everyone taking part. unfortunately we didn't get any pics of the trains, but we did film them so we will try add a few video clips in the next few days.

Here is a pic of the birthday boy firing out a 360 turn down over the step up.

The entertainment was supplied via this state of the art PA system. No DJ required!

One of the OG cobra members Warren Atkinson cranks a turn down over the last set.

Colin Loudon getting rad with a table mid section (Who is that fat guy?).

Empire Team rider Paul Soderlund is also in town at the moment and was shredding the trails. here he is with a table over the last set.

"Stu the Who" was shredding the trails on borrowed bikes all day long. Here he is styling the step up on a bike that is longer then he is tall.

Here is another pic of Tyrone floating a big 360 mid section. Thanks to Tyrone for organising an awesome afternoon! And what a great way to get the year started! We will add all the pics from the jam up in the gallery later this week.
