Jim
is a Trooper!:

About
a week ago Jimmy Reynolds said he had found a massive wall
ride that we all had to see. Apparently you could crank flat
out at the wall and just go as high as you like... Anyway,
over the weekend Tyrone, Colin, and Jimmy headed to the wall
to get some filming done for the video. On arrival we soon
realised that Jimmy wasn't joking! The bank was about 2 meters
high with a 1 meter deck going up to the side of a 3 story
building. You seriously had to crank flat out at the bank
just to get on to the wall, let alone do anything on it.
Tyrone
and Colin gave it a few goes but both of them decided that
the sprint up to it was way too much hard work... Jimmy on
the other had was on a mission. He wanted to whip out of the
wall and wasn't going to stop until it was done. The pic above
just doesn't do it justice. Jim tried this whip about 10 times
and eventually rode away with one foot on the pedal... The
only reason he didn't give it a few more goes and stick it
clean, was because his shins were so shredded that he needed
to go and get them cleaned up. Watching him charge this wall
was crazy, and as soon as his legs heal up Im pretty sure
he is going to head back there and pull it clean. Hopefully
with shin pads!

Got
Roots?:
The
photos keep rolling in and today we were sent some true gems!
Garth Carnell from Cape Town sent us these pics of him riding
24 years ago! Now we are well aware that most of you weren't
even born 24 years ago so get ready for a bit of a BMX history
lesson..

This
is a pic of Garth getting RAD at "Red Sands" in
1982. Is that style or what! Garth said that this spot is
now completely covered in houses and concrete, but back in
82 it looks like it got its fair share of BMX action!

This
is a pic of Garth and his team "Southern BMX" that
he rode for at the time the "Red Sands" pic was
taken (1982).

This
photo was taken at a Alrode BMX national in 1988 when Garth
rode for GHP. Garth is riding the #85 bike and riding the
#23 is none other the Toby Gronewald! Take note of Toby's
JT "Bones" leathers! too good! What's even more
impressive is that both Toby and Garth are still riding today!
Just imaging what you would get for those bikes on Ebay today!
Thanks
to Garth for sending these through! We really enjoyed them.

Weekend
Sessions:
Wayne
Reiche from Cape Town sent us these pics from a session that
went down this weekend. The first pic is Wayne boosting the
ditch wallride. This spot is amazing!!! and Wayne kills it
at this place. Wayne has also been filming here for his video
so you can be sure you will see some of the action when the
video come out.

The
next pic is of "Savage" riding the tranny further
down the ditch. This ditch goes on for quite a distance and
there are all kinds of interesting obstacles along the way.
The guys rode late into the evening, eventually using their
car lights to light up the ditch. Looks like they had a good
time.

Thanks
to Wayne for sending the pics!

Random
News:
We
got a call from OG team member Gareth Lyle today and it sounds
like things are good on his side of the world. Gareth says
that "he is back on the streets" so no doubt there
is some radical bike trickery going down. Gareth is also working
on the new Militia web page so check back for that. We will
let you know as soon as that is up and running. If you don't
know what Militia is then get yourself a copy of Source issue
3 and check out the interview with Rowan and Gareth in there...
We
have also got a bit of a filming expedition planned for this
weekend. Some of the team members are going to venture into
uncharted territory on their quest to get footage for the
upcoming video (provided the weather holds up of course).
We will fill you in and post a few pics early next week.

Visual
Treats:
James
in Cape Town just got a new camera and has been putting it
to good use. Here are two more pics that he sent us from his
side of the world. Take a look at these two bangers. The first
pic is Fly Bikes team rider Buddy Chellan, and all I have
to say is that this is a PROPER turn down fakie!!! Buddy rules!!!

Next
up we have Wayne Reiche aboard his Fly Pantera doing a Fufanu
out of the Rondebosch bowl. This bowl gets sessioned by the
local crew and its clear that Wayne has been putting in some
quality time at this spot... Good Stuff!

A
big thanks to James for sending us the pics!

Some
Fly News:
Fly
Bikes team rider Buddy Chellan gave us a call today to say
that he has been hooked up by Red Bull. The guys at RB have
given him a hefty travel allowance so you can be sure that
Buddy will be doing a lot more traveling this year! No doubt
Buddy will be hitting up some international events as well.
Its awesome to see local riders getting support like this
and we are all super stoked for Buddy.

In
other Fly Bikes news the guys at Fly have announced that their
rims are almost ready for production. They have posted some
info up on their site as well as their new range of colours...
Head on over there and check it out. www.flybikesbmx.com

Life
Cycle Expo:
We
have a bunch going on here at Empire, so here is a quick run
down on what to expect in the coming weeks and months. Firstly
we are going to be launching the new range of DK bikes at
the 2006 "Life Cycle Expo" in Cape Town. As well
as launching the new DK range we are also going to be displaying
all of our 2006 products from Odyssey, Fly, Federal, Animal,
T-1, and FBM. If you are in Cape Town from the 8th - 11th
of March make sure you stop by and check out the booth. The
Expo takes place at the Good Hope Center and we are booths
8 & 9 so stop by and check out all the new products.
Team
riders Tyrone Bradley (Federal) and Colin Loudon (Odyssey)
recently rode in bizarre contest at the Durban Beach park.
It seems like the comp was a bit of a last minute event but
reports are that it was fun none the less. One of the events
was a long jump comp over a wall and out of the park (sketchy
or what!). Tyrone Bradley took the challenge and ended up
in first place! There was also a jam style park event with
Colin finishing in 2nd and Tyrone taking 3rd place.

We
don't have any pics from the comp but here is a pic of the
two of them in a rather strange situation. One does wonder
about these two...
On
another note there are also a number of shipments coming in
this month. We have the first of the DK orders, Fly Bikes
and Odyssey shipments coming in. Check back soon to see what
new products are in stock.
